About Glenrowan
Glenrowan is a historic town in north-east Victoria located 236 kilometres from Melbourne and 16 kilometres from Wangaratta, nestled near the Warby Ranges and Mount Glenrowan. Part of the Rural City of Wangaratta, the town had a population of 1,049 at the 2021 census. Glenrowan is internationally famous as the site of bushranger Ned Kelly's last stand in 1880, when he was captured following a dramatic siege that has become a defining moment in Australian folklore.
Tourism anchors Glenrowan's local economy, with the Ned Kelly theme park, murals, and heritage sites attracting visitors year-round along the Hume Highway corridor. The town has a general store, cafes, and tourist facilities, while full services are available in nearby Wangaratta.
