About Grey River
Grey River is a tiny coastal locality in Victoria's Surf Coast region, situated within the Otway Ranges near the Great Ocean Road corridor. With a population of just four people according to the 2021 Census, it is one of the smallest localities in the state. The area is characterised by dense temperate rainforest, fern gullies, and the Grey River itself — a pristine waterway that flows through the Otway National Park.
Grey River attracts bushwalkers, naturalists, and those seeking complete solitude in one of Victoria's most biodiverse forest settings. The Grey River Campsite within Otway National Park is a popular spot for campers and day-trippers exploring the area's ancient myrtle beech forests and cascading creek systems. Everyday services are accessed from Lorne or Colac, each around 20–30 minutes' drive away.
Grey River falls under postcode 3221 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the South Barwon (Western Victoria) electorate.
