About Iraak
Iraak is a small rural locality in the Rural City of Mildura, situated approximately 35 kilometres south-east of Mildura in Victoria's Murray-Mallee region, about 524 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. With a recorded population of 118, the locality covers a large area of 77 square kilometres across flat, semi-arid agricultural land near the New South Wales border. Iraak and its neighbours Nangiloc and Colignan were established as soldier settlement farming areas following World War I, and the district has retained its agricultural character ever since.
The locality is characterised by irrigated horticulture and dryland farming typical of the Sunraysia district, with citrus, table grapes, and other produce grown in the area. Residents rely heavily on private vehicles for daily needs, with the regional centre of Mildura providing access to hospitals, schools, shopping, and services. The surrounding Murray-Mallee landscape is flat and sparsely vegetated, offering a quiet, close-knit rural lifestyle for those who call this remote corner of Victoria home.
Iraak falls under postcode 3494 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mildura (Northern Victoria) electorate.
