About Kimberley
Kimberley is a small rural locality in northern Tasmania, situated in the local government areas of Meander Valley and Kentish, approximately midway between the towns of Sheffield and Deloraine. With a 2021 Census population of 124 residents spread across nearly 21 square kilometres, it is a quiet agricultural settlement with deep historical roots. The area was once a thriving village with a school, railway station, shops, and two churches, though today it retains just one church — St Michael and All Angels Anglican Church — alongside scattered homesteads and farms.
The Kimberley locality is best known for its Kimberley Warm Springs, a natural attraction drawing visitors to the area, and the Dasher River Conservation Area, which offers bushland and wildlife habitat. The Mersey River forms part of the locality's boundary, flowing through the district and supporting the surrounding pastoral lands. Agriculture dominates the local economy, with dairy farming, beef breeding and fattening, prime lamb production, and some cropping; the White Rock Vineyard and an olive grove add further variety to the rural landscape.
Kimberley falls under postcode 7304 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Montgomery) electorate.
