About Kirwans Bridge
Kirwans Bridge is a small rural locality in the Shire of Strathbogie in north-east Victoria, situated approximately 143 kilometres north-east of Melbourne and 5 kilometres north of the town of Nagambie on the Goulburn River. With a population of 134 at the 2021 Census, the locality covers around 12 square kilometres of river country and pastoral land. It is named after a heritage-listed timber bridge — at 310 metres, the longest timber bridge in Victoria — which crosses the Goulburn River and was opened in 1890.
Kirwans Bridge is closely linked to the town of Nagambie, which provides local amenities including shops, cafes, a primary school, and access to the popular Nagambie Lakes recreation area — well-known for rowing, sailing, and water sports. The Goulburn River and surrounding wine country make the area attractive to those seeking a quiet rural lifestyle with scenic surroundings. Nagambie railway station, on the Shepparton Line, is located approximately 5 kilometres south, providing a V/Line rail connection to Melbourne and Shepparton. A private vehicle is still essential for most daily needs.
Kirwans Bridge falls under postcode 3608 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Euroa (Northern Victoria) electorate.
