About Kokeby
Kokeby is a small rural locality in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, within the Shire of Beverley, situated approximately 12 kilometres south of the town of Beverley and around 140 kilometres south-east of Perth. Covering nearly 200 square kilometres, the locality is predominantly used for wheat and sheep farming, giving it a distinctly agricultural character. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 90 residents, reflecting the sparse settlement pattern typical of the broader Wheatbelt region.
The locality takes its name from a railway siding established in 1889 — itself the result of a historical misspelling of 'Rokeby' — and a townsite was gazetted here in 1902, though it never developed into a formal township. Nearby Mount Kokeby provides a local landmark in an otherwise flat to gently undulating farming landscape. Residents rely on the town of Beverley for essential services including schools, shops, and the Transwa bus service connecting to Perth, while the Great Southern Highway provides the main road link north to the Perth metropolitan area. Life in Kokeby is defined by wide open paddocks, a strong farming community, and the characteristic quiet of the Wheatbelt.
Kokeby falls under postcode 6304 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
