About Westdale
Westdale is a small rural locality in the Shire of Beverley in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, situated approximately 93 kilometres east of Perth via Brookton Highway. Covering around 191 square kilometres, the locality takes its name from the nearby Dale River, itself named after the explorer Ensign Robert Dale who traversed the area in 1831. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 93 residents across approximately 34 dwellings, representing a modest decline from 100 residents in 2016.
Westdale has an agricultural heritage dating back to the early 1900s, when the area was settled for broad-acre farming, and a local school operated until recent decades. The locality is set within the broader Shire of Beverley, which is predominantly given over to livestock grazing and grain cropping. The nearest service town is Beverley, approximately 20 kilometres to the north, while the regional centre of Northam is around 50 kilometres away. Residents rely on private vehicles for all daily needs, with the locality offering the peace and open space typical of rural Wheatbelt Western Australia.
Westdale falls under postcode 6304 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
