About Koornalla
Koornalla is a small rural locality in the Latrobe Valley region of Gippsland, Victoria, situated approximately 20 kilometres south-east of Traralgon and around 175 kilometres east of Melbourne. Covering roughly 25 square kilometres of hilly, forested terrain, the locality is tucked within the foothills on the southern fringe of the Latrobe Valley. The 2021 census recorded a population of 89, reflecting its character as a quiet rural-residential community rather than a service centre.
Koornalla is notable for its proximity to Tarra-Bulga National Park, a stunning tract of cool temperate rainforest in the Strzelecki Ranges that draws bushwalkers and nature lovers year-round. The surrounding landscape is lush and green, with the area receiving high rainfall typical of South Gippsland. Residents rely on nearby Traralgon for shopping, healthcare, schools, and employment, with that city accessible via a short drive through the winding Traralgon–Balook Road corridor.
Koornalla falls under postcode 3844 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Morwell (Eastern Victoria) electorate.
