About Koreelah
Koreelah is a remote rural locality in the Tenterfield Shire of northern New South Wales, located near the Queensland border in the New England region. The locality sits approximately 30 kilometres west of Woodenbong off White Swamp Road, in a rugged landscape of mountains, native forest, and World Heritage listed rainforest. At the 2021 Census, Koreelah recorded a population of 83 residents across a large land area of around 271 square kilometres, typical of a sparse, thinly populated hinterland community.
Koreelah is best known as the home of Koreelah National Park, which protects a significant area of Gondwana Rainforests of Australia — a UNESCO World Heritage listed ecosystem offering walking trails, camping, swimming, and exceptional birdwatching. The locality is accessed via Mount Lindesay Road off the Summerland Way, and the small community of Woodenbong to the east serves as the nearest place for basic supplies. The Tenterfield township, the shire's main service centre, is roughly 90 kilometres to the south, while the natural environment is the defining character of Koreelah, drawing visitors and nature enthusiasts to its ancient rainforest and mountain scenery.
Koreelah falls under postcode 2476 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lismore electorate.
