About Legume
Legume is a small rural locality in the northeast corner of Tenterfield Shire, on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Situated approximately 50 kilometres north-east of Tenterfield, the area spans over 217 square kilometres of largely agricultural land at elevation on the New England Plateau. With a population of around 168 residents, Legume is a quiet farming community governed by Tenterfield Council and known for its beef cattle properties and the fertile soils of the Acacia Plateau.
The surrounding landscape offers dramatic scenery, with rainforest drives leading to Tooloom Falls — a popular picnic spot — and Tooloom Lookout with sweeping views over the countryside. The community centres around a local hall, general store, and post office, reflecting its tight-knit country character. The Acacia Plateau is recognised as one of the finest beef cattle regions in Australia, and also produces quality potatoes and kiwi fruit, making Legume a small but productive corner of regional New South Wales.
Legume falls under postcode 2476 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lismore electorate.
