About Kotupna
Kotupna is a small rural locality in the Shire of Moira in northern Victoria, situated in the flat river-country near the Goulburn River and Broken Creek systems. The locality covers a substantial 127 square kilometres and had a population of approximately 105 at the 2016 census. Kotupna has deep pastoral roots — the historic Kotupna Run, a vast sheep and cattle station of some 118,000 acres, operated in the area from at least the 1840s, with the name believed to derive from an Aboriginal language of the region.
Today Kotupna is a quiet agricultural locality where farming and grazing remain the primary land uses within the productive Goulburn-Murray irrigation district. The town of Nathalia, approximately 15 kilometres to the northeast, provides residents with essential services including schools, shops, and medical facilities. The flat, open landscape is characteristic of the northern Victorian plains, and the locality appeals to those drawn to a genuinely rural way of life with a strong agricultural heritage.
Kotupna falls under postcode 3638 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Shepparton (Northern Victoria) electorate.
