About Landsborough
Landsborough is a small rural locality in Victoria's central-west, situated approximately 32 kilometres east of Stawell in the Pyrenees Shire, roughly 230 kilometres north-west of Melbourne's CBD. Originally founded as a gold-mining settlement in the mid-19th century, the locality now covers over 91 square kilometres of agricultural land at the foot of the Pyrenees Ranges. The 2021 Census recorded a population of around 200 residents, giving Landsborough a distinctly quiet, close-knit character.
Landsborough retains a handful of heritage buildings from its gold rush origins, offering a tangible connection to the region's pioneering history. The nearby Pyrenees Ranges form part of a recognised wine region known for producing high-quality shiraz and cabernet sauvignon, with several cellar doors accessible within the broader area. Residents travel to Stawell or Ararat for everyday services and shopping, and the region's scenic farming landscapes, open space, and affordable properties attract those seeking a relaxed off-the-beaten-track lifestyle in rural Victoria.
Landsborough falls under postcode 3384 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Ripon (Western Victoria) electorate.
