About Ledge Point
Ledge Point is a small coastal township situated approximately 105 kilometres north of Perth on Western Australia's Turquoise Coast, within the Shire of Gingin local government area. The town was established to service the local fishing and crayfishing industries, and takes its name from a series of distinctive rocky ledges on the nearby headland, first charted during an 1875 Royal Navy hydrographic survey. With a population of around 231, the locality covers just over 31 square kilometres of coastal terrain between the Indian Ocean and the coastal scrubland.
Today Ledge Point has evolved into a relaxed recreational destination popular with weekenders and holidaymakers from Perth. The town is known for its excellent fishing — especially rock and beach fishing for a range of species — and its uncrowded beaches provide a quiet alternative to busier coastal towns further south. Lancelin, a larger township with more services, lies just 17 kilometres to the north. The area suits retirees, fishing enthusiasts, and those seeking a simple coastal lifestyle, with a car essential for all shopping and services.
Ledge Point falls under postcode 6043 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Moore (Agricultural) electorate.
