About Maclagan
Maclagan is a small rural town and locality in the Toowoomba Region of Queensland, situated on the Darling Downs approximately 80 kilometres north-west of Toowoomba and 208 kilometres west-north-west of Brisbane. With a population of 130 people at the 2021 Census and an area of 76 square kilometres, Maclagan is a quiet agricultural community with roots dating to its survey in 1889, when it was originally named Bismarck before being renamed in 1916 after Brigadier Ewen George Sinclair-Maclagan. The locality is characterised by open Darling Downs farmland used for mixed cropping and grazing.
Maclagan has a tight-knit community character, with residents supported by a general store and the Maclagan Memorial Hall, which stands as a reminder of the town’s World War I and II heritage. Maclagan Meats Processing is a notable local employer on the Dalby-Cooyar Road. The Bunya Mountains are accessible to the north, providing a scenic natural attraction within reasonable driving distance, while Dalby and Toowoomba offer the full range of regional services including hospitals, schools, shopping centres, and transport links. The Dalby-Cooyar Road connects Maclagan to the broader region.
