About Marvel Loch
Marvel Loch is a small historic goldmining townsite in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, located within the Shire of Yilgarn approximately 401 kilometres east of Perth and 31 kilometres south-east of the regional town of Southern Cross. Set at an elevation of 437 metres on the edge of the Western Australian goldfields, the townsite has a recorded population of around 120 and covers an expansive area of 845 square kilometres. Marvel Loch takes its name from the 1905 Caulfield Cup-winning horse, which was adopted as the name of a gold mining lease in 1906.
Marvel Loch's history is rooted in the gold rushes of the 1890s, and the area continues to be associated with mining activity in the broader Yilgarn region. The town lies along the Great Eastern Highway corridor between Perth and Kalgoorlie, providing a remote but connected setting for its small community. Facilities are extremely limited and residents rely on Southern Cross for most goods and services. The surrounding wheatbelt and goldfields landscape — characterised by salt lakes, red granite outcrops, and vast open plains — offers a distinctly outback Western Australian character.
Marvel Loch falls under postcode 6426 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
