About Mayanup
Mayanup is a small rural town in the South West region of Western Australia, situated approximately 283 kilometres south-south-east of Perth CBD and 17 kilometres south-east of Boyup Brook, within the Shire of Boyup Brook. With a 2021 Census population of 174 residents spread across a substantial area of 384 square kilometres, Mayanup is a sparsely settled agricultural locality at an elevation of 206 metres in the rolling farmland between Boyup Brook and Kojonup. The town was gazetted in 1907, having grown from a timber and pastoral settlement in the early 1900s.
Mayanup and its surrounds are characterised by broad-acre farming, sheep and cattle grazing, and the open pastoral landscapes typical of WA's South West wheat-sheep belt. The nearby town of Boyup Brook serves as the main service centre, offering a supermarket, school, medical facilities, and the popular Boyup Brook Country Music Festival. The broader South West region features the scenic Blackwood River valley, jarrah and karri forests, and easy access to larger regional centres including Bridgetown and Bunbury.
