About Mengha
Mengha is a small rural locality in the Circular Head Council area, situated in the North West region of Tasmania approximately 14 kilometres south-east of the town of Smithton. Spanning nearly 47 square kilometres, the locality is characterised by lush agricultural land typical of Tasmania's productive north-west, with the Black River forming part of its eastern boundary. With a population of 151 residents, Mengha is a quiet, tightly-knit farming community with a modest median household income reflecting its rural economy.
The landscape around Mengha is defined by dairy farms, native bushland, and the rich, dark soils that make the Circular Head region one of Tasmania's most fertile agricultural areas. Smithton, the administrative centre of Circular Head, provides residents with access to supermarkets, schools, health services, and community facilities. The area is entirely car-dependent, and while it lacks the tourist draw of Tasmania's more celebrated destinations, it offers genuine rural tranquillity within easy reach of the spectacular north-west coast and the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area to the west.
Mengha falls under postcode 7330 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Braddon (Murchison) electorate.
