About Merseylea
Merseylea is a small rural locality in north-west Tasmania, spanning the local government areas of Kentish and Latrobe, approximately 29 kilometres south-east of Devonport. With a population of 71 residents across approximately 39 square kilometres, the locality sits in the fertile agricultural country south of the Mersey River corridor. The area is within the broader North West region of Tasmania and takes its name from the River Mersey, which defines much of this part of the island's agricultural hinterland.
The surrounding landscape is a mix of improved pasture and mixed farming, with Mount Roland and the Kentish hills forming a scenic backdrop to the south. Residents access services and shopping in Latrobe (approximately 20 kilometres north) or in the regional centre of Devonport, which has a wide range of retail, medical, and educational facilities. The Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal at Devonport provides the main link to mainland Australia. The Sheffield area to the south-west is known for its murals and agricultural shows, contributing to the locality's broader rural tourism context.
Merseylea falls under postcode 7305 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (McIntyre) electorate.
