About Mole Creek
Mole Creek is a small township and locality in Tasmania's upper Mersey Valley, nestled in the Central Highlands foothills approximately 75 kilometres south-west of Launceston. With a population of around 528 at the 2021 census, it sits at the gateway to the Mole Creek Karst National Park — a UNESCO-listed landscape renowned for its spectacular limestone cave systems. The township is part of the Meander Valley Council area and serves as the service centre for the surrounding rural district.
Mole Creek is best known for its world-class cave attractions — Marakoopa Cave and King Solomons Cave draw thousands of visitors annually with guided tours operating year-round. The Trowunna Wildlife Park, home to Tasmanian devils, wombats and other native animals, is another popular drawcard. The area is also celebrated for its Leatherwood honey, produced from the surrounding forests and sold by local beekeepers. The community has a relaxed, nature-focused character, appealing to tree-changers, tourism workers and farming families who appreciate Tasmania's pristine natural environment.
Mole Creek falls under postcode 7304 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Montgomery) electorate.
