About Monsildale

Monsildale is a remote rural locality in Queensland's Somerset Region, covering approximately 329 square kilometres of forested upland country approximately 137 kilometres north-north-west of Brisbane and 33 kilometres north-north-west of Kilcoy. The Kilcoy–Murgon Road forms the eastern boundary of the locality, and Monsildale Creek — which rises in the locality's north-west and meanders to its south-western boundary — is a tributary of the Brisbane River. The 2021 Census recorded a population of just 18 people, and the heritage-listed Monsildale Homestead stands as a reminder of the area's early pastoral settlement history.

The landscape of Monsildale is characterised by the densely forested ranges and creek valleys of the D'Aguilar Range foothills, transitioning to open grazing land in its eastern sections. The Somerset Region is well known for its natural attractions, particularly Lake Somerset and Lake Wivenhoe to the south, and the Conondale Range wilderness areas to the north-west. With only 18 residents, Monsildale is one of the most sparsely settled localities in south-east Queensland, offering an extremely private and self-sufficient rural lifestyle for those who call it home; Kilcoy (33 km south-east) provides the nearest services including schools, shops, and medical facilities.

Monsildale falls under postcode 4306 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Scenic Rim electorate.
