About Moorleah
Moorleah is a rural locality in the Waratah-Wynyard Council area, situated approximately 14 kilometres south-west of Wynyard in Tasmania's North West region. With a population of around 161 at the 2021 Census, the area covers roughly 21 square kilometres of pastoral farmland and bushland. Originally known as Upper Flowerdale before being gazetted as Moorleah in 1966, the locality retains a deeply agricultural and unhurried character.
The Flowerdale River forms Moorleah's western boundary and the Inglis River much of its eastern edge, lending the area a pleasant riverine setting amid rolling countryside. The nearby township of Wynyard — just 14 kilometres to the north-east — serves as the primary hub for shopping, services, and healthcare. Residents enjoy the tranquillity and natural beauty of north-west Tasmania, including the dramatic scenery of Table Cape and the broader Waratah-Wynyard region.
Moorleah falls under postcode 7325 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Braddon (Murchison) electorate.
