About Mount Gipps
Mount Gipps is a remote rural locality in the Scenic Rim Region of Queensland, situated on the McPherson Range approximately 112 kilometres south of Brisbane and 42.8 kilometres south of Beaudesert, straddling the Queensland–New South Wales border ridge. Covering 15.6 square kilometres of rugged mountain terrain within the broader Lamington–Border Ranges wilderness corridor, the locality records negligible permanent population, as most of the land is protected national park or state forest. The McPherson Range forms part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia UNESCO World Heritage Area, protecting ancient subtropical and temperate rainforest, clear mountain streams and exceptional biodiversity. The locality's elevated ridgeline terrain encompasses peaks, escarpments and headwater catchments of both Queensland and NSW river systems.
Mount Gipps is essentially a wilderness locality with no residential services, valued entirely for its exceptional natural environment within the Scenic Rim's World Heritage landscape. The adjoining Lamington National Park and Border Ranges National Park on the NSW side contain some of Australia's most spectacular rainforest walking trails, including the renowned Scenic Rim Trail and tracks leading to waterfalls and volcanic rim lookouts. Beaudesert (42.8 km north) is the nearest service centre, and the Gold Coast (approximately 60 km north-east) provides the nearest urban services and airport. The locality is popular with serious bushwalkers, eco-tourists and wildlife photographers exploring the McPherson Range's extraordinary flora and fauna.
Mount Gipps falls under postcode 4285 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Scenic Rim electorate.
