About Mount Morgan
Mount Morgan is a historic mining town located 39 kilometres south-west of Rockhampton in Central Queensland. Established in 1882 following a major gold discovery, the town has a population of approximately 2,500. At an elevation of 341 metres, it offers a warm subtropical climate and a character shaped by over 140 years of mining heritage.
The town features numerous heritage-listed buildings including the School of Arts, the former Technical College, and the historic cemetery with its Chinese Shrine. Mount Morgan's open-cut mine was once one of the richest gold mines in the world. Today the town attracts heritage tourists and offers very affordable housing. It suits retirees and those wanting a quiet lifestyle with Rockhampton's services a short drive away.
