About Mount St John
Mount St John is an industrial locality in Townsville, situated in the City of Townsville local government area approximately 10 kilometres north-west of the Townsville CBD. With a 2021 Census population of 103 people, the locality is predominantly industrial in character, with land use focused on warehousing, logistics, and commercial operations rather than residential development. The suburb was named after St John Robinson, who established zoological gardens in the area in the early colonial period.
The locality is home to several significant industrial and infrastructure assets, including a large warehouse and industrial precinct along Ingham Road, the Mount St John Wastewater Treatment Plant operated by Townsville City Council, and the North Trade Training Centre — a TAFE Queensland campus at 763–773 Ingham Road. The eastern corner of the suburb adjoins Townsville Airport (Townsville International Airport), which is predominantly situated in the neighbouring suburb of Garbutt. There are no residential subdivisions within Mount St John, with the Coral Coast Tourist Park at 547 Ingham Road being one of the few non-industrial uses in the locality.
Mount St John falls under postcode 4818 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Townsville electorate.
