About Mount Stanley
Mount Stanley is a remote rural locality in the Somerset Region of Queensland, located about 161 kilometres northwest of Brisbane. The locality encompasses a vast 386 square kilometres of hilly, forested terrain in the D'Aguilar Range foothills, and recorded a population of just 11 people in the 2021 Census. It is situated roughly 90 kilometres east of Nanango and 72 kilometres southwest of Kingaroy, placing it deep in Queensland's rural hinterland. The area is characterised by thick bushland, small farming properties, and the quiet isolation typical of the Somerset hinterland.
Mount Stanley offers an exceptionally peaceful retreat from urban life, with dense native bush and rural properties providing habitat for a rich variety of wildlife. The Somerset Region is known for its scenic dams and outdoor recreation, with Somerset and Wivenhoe dams not far to the south. Residents must travel considerable distances for services, with Esk and Kilcoy serving as the nearest country towns for basic needs. It's a place for self-sufficient rural dwellers, hobby farmers, and nature lovers who value seclusion above all else.
