About Myalla
Myalla is a small rural locality in the Waratah-Wynyard Council area of north-west Tasmania, situated approximately 19 kilometres west of the coastal town of Wynyard. The name derives from the Aboriginal words 'Myallanga Bourack' meaning 'To Grow', a name that has been in use since around 1908. With a population of just 54 at the 2016 census, the locality is one of the quieter farming communities along the Myalla Road corridor. The surrounding land consists of cleared pastures, dairy farms and remnant native vegetation.
Residents of Myalla rely on Wynyard and the nearby town of Smithton for most daily needs including shopping, schooling and medical services. The community has a recorded local history and a strong sense of rural identity shaped by generations of farming families. The C229 Myalla Road links the locality to the broader highway network and to coastal towns including Sisters Creek. The north-west Tasmanian landscape offers clean air, fertile soils and proximity to the Tarkine wilderness and Bass Strait coastline for those who enjoy the outdoors.
Myalla falls under postcode 7325 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Braddon (Murchison) electorate.
