About Nabageena
Nabageena is a small rural locality in the Circular Head local government area in north-western Tasmania, situated approximately 19 kilometres south of Smithton. With a population of just 34 residents recorded in the 2021 Census, it is one of the most sparsely settled localities in the region. The name Nabageena derives from an Aboriginal term meaning "sun", and the locality was officially gazetted in 1973. The Duck River forms its southern boundary, lending the area a quiet, pastoral character typical of the Tasmanian north-west.
Life in Nabageena centres on the land, with farming and agriculture forming the backbone of the local community. The surrounding Circular Head district is known for its dairy farming and cool-climate produce. Residents travel to nearby Smithton for everyday services, schools, and shopping, while the broader region offers access to the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area and coastal wilderness. This locality suits those seeking a deeply rural lifestyle with wide open spaces and a strong connection to the Tasmanian landscape.
Nabageena falls under postcode 7330 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Braddon (Murchison) electorate.
