About Nelungaloo
Nelungaloo is a sparsely populated rural locality in the Central Western Plains of New South Wales, located in the Parkes Shire approximately 30 kilometres south-east of Parkes township. With a recorded population of just 47 people spread across an area of over 110 square kilometres, it is one of the most thinly settled localities in the region. The landscape is dominated by flat, open agricultural land used primarily for dryland cropping and grazing, typical of the fertile soils of the Central West.
Life in Nelungaloo is characterised by the rhythms of rural farming, with properties engaged in wheat, canola, and sheep production. Residents travel to Parkes or Forbes for everyday amenities, schools, and medical services. The broader Parkes area is notable for the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope (made famous by the film 'The Dish'), and the annual Parkes Elvis Festival, both of which draw visitors to the region.
Nelungaloo falls under postcode 2876 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Orange electorate.
