Newbridge is a small rural town situated on the banks of the Loddon River in central Victoria, 173 kilometres north-west of Melbourne and 37 kilometres west of Bendigo, within the Shire of Loddon local government area. With a population of around 171 residents, the locality spans a generous 96 square kilometres of pastoral and bushland country. Founded as a gold mining town in the 1850s, Newbridge retains a quiet agricultural character with a strong sense of community history.
The Loddon River is the centrepiece of community life in Newbridge, attracting campers and fishing enthusiasts throughout the year with dedicated campsites along its banks. The town hosts the popular Family Fishing Bonanza each February and the Music for the People event in March, drawing visitors from across the region. Newbridge Football Netball Club, the Maroons, competes in the Loddon Valley Football League, providing a social anchor for the community. The locality is also historically noted as the birthplace of Arthur Wellesley Bayley, who co-discovered the Coolgardie goldfields in Western Australia in 1892.
