About North Eton
North Eton (also known as Eton North) is a rural farming locality in the Mackay Region of central Queensland, situated approximately 31 kilometres south-west of Mackay CBD and around 18 kilometres south-east of Mirani. Covering just over 21 square kilometres, the locality had a population of 189 at the 2021 Census and falls under the Mackay Regional Council. It lies within the federal Division of Dawson and the state electoral district of Mirani, consistent with the broader Pioneer Valley farming hinterland.
The entire land area of North Eton is dedicated to farming, with sugarcane the dominant land use across the locality. The north branch of Sandy Creek flows through the area as part of the Plane Creek drainage basin, contributing to the fertile conditions that have supported sugarcane growing in this district since the 19th century. The nearby town of Eton, just to the south, has historically been the service centre for farming families in the area, while Mackay city provides access to a full range of schools, hospitals, and retail services.
North Eton falls under postcode 4741 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Whitsunday electorate.
