About Nullawil
Nullawil is a small rural locality situated on the Calder Highway in Victoria's Buloke Shire, approximately 302 kilometres north-west of Melbourne and around 27 kilometres north of Wycheproof. The locality covers an expansive 161 square kilometres of open farmland in the Wimmera Mallee region, and the 2021 Census recorded a population of 92 residents. Nullawil sits within the heart of grain-growing country where wheat, barley and oats have long formed the backbone of the local economy, with scattered rural homesteads and a close-knit community typical of this part of north-western Victoria.
Nullawil is best known for its striking silo art, added to the Australian Silo Art Trail in 2019 when artist Sam Bates painted a photorealistic mural of a farmer and his Kelpie sheepdog on the town's grain silos, attracting visitors from across the country. The locality has a community complex with sporting and recreation facilities, and the Buloke Shire Council supports several similar small communities across the region. Access to larger services is found in Wycheproof to the south and Sea Lake to the north, while Swan Hill and Bendigo serve as the nearest regional centres for health, retail, and education.
Nullawil falls under postcode 3529 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mildura (Northern Victoria) electorate.
