About Oaks Estate

Oaks Estate is a small village in the Jerrabomberra district of the Australian Capital Territory, situated about 15 kilometres south-east of Canberra and just 1 kilometre north of Queanbeyan. Established in 1984 and covering roughly 40 hectares, the village is bound by the Molonglo River to the north, the Queanbeyan River to the east, and the Queanbeyan–Cooma railway line to the south. The 2021 census recorded a population of 375, making it one of Canberra's most intimate and distinct communities.

Oaks Estate has a rich industrial heritage, having served as the nucleus of Queanbeyan's industrial development during the latter half of the 19th century; its name derives from 'The Oaks', a historic pastoral estate. Today it is a quiet, leafy enclave popular with those who value a village atmosphere within easy reach of the national capital. Residents enjoy riverside walks along the Molonglo and Queanbeyan Rivers, and direct road and rail links to both Canberra and Queanbeyan make commuting straightforward.

Oaks Estate falls under postcode 2620 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Kurrajong electorate.
