About Orroroo
Orroroo is a small historic town in the Yorke and Mid North region of South Australia, situated approximately 270 kilometres north of Adelaide and 120 kilometres north-east of Port Pirie. It falls within the District Council of Orroroo Carrieton and sits at an elevation of 428 metres in the southern Flinders Ranges foothills. Established in 1875, the town has a population of around 578 and retains a strong agricultural and pastoral character shaped by more than 150 years of settlement.
Orroroo serves as a service centre for surrounding farms and stations, with a main street offering essential retail, hospitality, and community facilities. The RM Williams Way and Wilmington-Ucolta Road pass through the town, connecting it to the broader Flinders Ranges tourism corridor and the iconic Birdsville and Oodnadatta Tracks further north. The picturesque Pekina Creek and surrounding hills provide opportunities for walking and nature appreciation, and the town's heritage buildings reflect its 19th-century pastoral origins.
