Ovens is a small rural locality in north-east Victoria, situated at the junction of the Ovens River and Happy Valley Creek in the Alpine Shire, approximately 4 kilometres south-east of Myrtleford on the Great Alpine Road towards Bright. The locality covers around 28 square kilometres of river valley land and recorded a population of 197 at the 2021 Census. Surrounded by the Victorian Alps, Ovens sits in a scenic mountain corridor that serves as a gateway to the High Country snowfields and alpine national parks.
The locality is well known to travellers passing through on the Great Alpine Road, with the historic Ovens Happy Valley Hotel a local landmark on the roadside. The area was formerly used for tobacco plantations and retains its rural agricultural character, with the Ovens River providing opportunities for fishing and nature appreciation.
