About Peranga
Peranga is a small rural locality on the Darling Downs in the Toowoomba Region of Queensland, situated approximately 77 kilometres north-west of Toowoomba and 55 kilometres north-east of Dalby. With a population of 98 residents at the 2021 Census, the locality covers 30.0 square kilometres of open farming country. Once a prosperous dairy hub, Peranga went into decline after the closure of the Oakey–Cooyar railway line in the mid-1960s.
Today Peranga is a quiet farming community with a handful of residents maintaining the area's agricultural traditions. The Peranga & District Bowls Club remains a social focal point for the local community. The locality's landscape of open paddocks and gentle hills is characteristic of the Darling Downs, one of Australia's most productive agricultural regions. Residents travel to Oakey, Toowoomba, or Dalby for shopping, schools, and services, connected via the local road network to these regional centres.
Peranga falls under postcode 4352 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Toowoomba North electorate.
