About Pine Point
Pine Point is a small coastal locality on the eastern side of Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, situated approximately 18 kilometres south of Ardrossan and around 165 kilometres north-west of Adelaide. The locality falls within the Yorke Peninsula Council area and covers roughly 32 square kilometres, with a 2021 Census population of 88 residents. Pine Point sits at sea level along the shores of Gulf St Vincent, characterised by a relaxed holiday atmosphere and a mix of permanent residents and seasonal visitors in modest beachside dwellings.
Once one of the busiest ports on Yorke Peninsula — historically shipping wool, grain and timber — Pine Point today is best known as a popular holiday and fishing destination. The calm, shallow waters are celebrated for blue swimmer crabbing in summer, and the beach provides safe swimming and easy access for boating. The Pine Point Caravan Park and kiosk cater to visitors, and the remains of ancient Indigenous fish traps, visible at low tide, add a layer of cultural heritage to this quiet coastal retreat. Essential services are available in Ardrossan, while the broader Yorke Peninsula offers scenic drives, wineries and Innes National Park to the south.
Pine Point falls under postcode 5571 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Narungga electorate.
