About Preolenna
Preolenna is a small rural locality in north-west Tasmania, located within the Waratah-Wynyard council area approximately 25 kilometres south-west of Wynyard. Sitting at an elevation of around 260 metres in rolling farming and forested country, it receives high annual rainfall of nearly 1,600 millimetres, supporting lush pasture and timber production. The wider Lapoinya statistical area, of which Preolenna forms part, recorded a population of around 287 in the 2011 census.
The community is rooted in farming and forestry, with dairy and beef cattle grazing on the productive basaltic soils of the Loftus Hills district. The area was first traversed by surveyor Henry Hellyer in 1827, and its history includes coal exploration and significant milling timber resources. Preolenna suits lifestyle farmers and those who value deep rural privacy amid Tasmania's scenic north-west landscape.
Preolenna falls under postcode 7325 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Braddon (Murchison) electorate.
