About Prospect
Prospect is a vast rural locality in Queensland's Central Highlands region, situated approximately 270 kilometres west of Rockhampton within the Central Highlands Regional Council area. With a 2021 Census population of 289 residents dispersed across an enormous 417 square kilometres, Prospect is one of the most sparsely settled localities in inland Queensland. The area is characterised by open grazing land and agricultural property, typical of the Callide Valley and Central Highlands pastoral country surrounding Emerald.
The regional hub of Emerald — Queensland's largest inland town in Central Queensland — provides residents with access to supermarkets, schools, the Emerald Hospital, and a wide range of services. The locality falls within the productive agricultural and mining belt of central Queensland, with cattle grazing and cropping operations as the mainstay of the local economy. Life in Prospect is defined by wide open spaces, clear inland skies, and the self-reliant community spirit characteristic of outback and rural Queensland.
Prospect falls under postcode 4715 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Callide electorate.
