About Qualco
Qualco is a small rural locality in the Riverland region of South Australia, positioned on the inside of a sweeping bend of the Murray River downstream from Waikerie. Part of the District Council of Loxton Waikerie, the settlement had a population of 47 at the 2021 census and covers approximately 36.6 square kilometres. The locality is bounded on one side by the Murray River floodplain and on the other by the main road connecting Waikerie to Cadell, with Sunlands on the opposite side. River flats that are subject to periodic flooding during high-flow events characterise the landscape.
Land use in Qualco is predominantly irrigated vineyards, orchards, and cereal crops, making it an important part of the Riverland horticultural economy. Residents and workers are a short drive from Waikerie, which provides retail stores, a hospital, schools, and community facilities. The Murray River offers excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, and water-based recreation, drawing seasonal visitors and holiday shack owners to the area. Qualco suits those seeking a quiet, semi-rural lifestyle with close proximity to the river and Riverland amenities.
Qualco falls under postcode 5322 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Chaffey electorate.
