About Ramco
Ramco is a small locality in the Riverland region of South Australia, situated on the southern bank of the Murray River approximately 170 kilometres north-east of Adelaide and 7 kilometres west of Waikerie. The area falls within the District Council of Loxton Waikerie and recorded a population of 135 at the 2021 Census. The locality has its origins in a village settlement established in 1894, with the current townsite surveyed in 1940, and takes its name from the Aboriginal word Bogorampko.
Despite its small size, Ramco has a post office, a Lutheran church, a town hall, and Ramco Primary School serving the local community. The nearby Ramco Lagoon borders the Murray River, and the adjoining Ramco Point Conservation Park in Sunlands provides bushland and birdwatching opportunities. Life here is quiet and rural, centred around the river and the broader Riverland agricultural and wine-growing community, with Waikerie just a short drive away for everyday services.
Ramco falls under postcode 5322 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Chaffey electorate.
