Permanent settlement was established here in 1869, drawn by natural springs near a break in the Conapaira Range that provided a vital crossing point for stock and travellers. The arrival of the railway from West Wyalong in 1923 prompted the village to relocate to its current position, cementing its role as a small service centre for surrounding farming properties.
