About Red Hills
Red Hills is a small rural locality in the Meander Valley local government area in northern Tasmania, situated approximately 7 kilometres west of the historic town of Deloraine. With a 2021 Census population of 124 residents across nearly 30 square kilometres, the settlement is sparse and agricultural in character. The Meander River forms part of the locality's south-eastern boundary, while its tributary Western Creek traces the remainder, lending the area a scenic, river-valley quality.
The locality is traversed by the B12 Mole Creek Road, which connects Red Hills to Deloraine in the east and continues westward to Mole Creek and the Great Western Tiers. The disused Western Line railway tracks pass through the north-eastern corner of Red Hills at Lemana Junction. Residents rely on Deloraine for shops, schools, medical services, and community facilities. The surrounding region is known for its productive farmland, cool-climate produce, and proximity to the Mole Creek Karst National Park, making it an attractive setting for those who value rural tranquillity.
Red Hills falls under postcode 7304 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Montgomery) electorate.
