Retreat is a small rural locality in north-east Tasmania, situated across the local government areas of the City of Launceston and George Town Council, approximately 40 kilometres east of George Town in the Launceston LGA region. The locality covers 45.5 square kilometres of rolling farmland and eucalypt forest and recorded a population of 18 at the 2021 census, reflecting its character as a quiet, dispersed agricultural district. Gazetted as a locality in 1964, the name Retreat was already in common use by 1915, though its precise origin is unrecorded. The locality sits within the broader Pipers River wine-growing area, one of Tasmania's most celebrated cool-climate viticulture regions.

Retreat's peaceful rural character is complemented by its proximity to the internationally recognised Pipers Brook and Pipers River wine subregion, home to notable producers including Jansz Tasmania and Kreglinger Wine Estates, known for exceptional sparkling and still cool-climate wines. Launceston — Tasmania's second largest city — is approximately 50 kilometres to the south-west, providing hospitals, the University of Tasmania campus, schools, major retail and Launceston Airport with interstate connections. George Town (40 km west) offers basic services and access to the Tamar Valley Rivulet and Bass Strait coastline.
