About Second Valley
Second Valley is a small coastal town on South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula, situated approximately 74 kilometres south of Adelaide in the District Council of Yankalilla area. The locality lies 14 kilometres south-west of Yankalilla on the shore of Gulf St Vincent, covering around 41 square kilometres of coastal terrain. With a small resident population of approximately 154 (2021 census), it is a quiet seaside community that attracts visitors for its sheltered bay and natural scenery.
Second Valley is one of South Australia's most photographed coastal spots, with its picturesque jetty, clear waters, and sheltered beach making it a popular destination for swimming, fishing, and scuba diving. The name derives from its position as the next valley north of Rapid Bay, which was the first camp on the South Australian mainland of Colonel William Light. While the area has few permanent commercial facilities, the nearby towns of Yankalilla and Normanville provide everyday services, and the stunning Fleurieu Peninsula scenery draws day-trippers and holiday-makers year-round.
Second Valley falls under postcode 5204 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mawson electorate.
