About Seddon
Seddon is a rural locality on Kangaroo Island in South Australia, approximately 151 kilometres south-west of Adelaide as the crow flies, within the Kangaroo Island Council area. With a population of 107 residents across a large 259 square kilometres, it occupies much of the island's central agricultural heartland. The nearest township is Parndana, about 5 kilometres to the north, while Kingscote — the island's main town — lies around 37 kilometres to the north-east.
The landscape is a mix of open farmland and native bushland on Kangaroo Island's lateritic plateau, with sheep farming, wool production, and grain cropping forming the economic base. Seddon Conservation Park protects 23 hectares of native vegetation along the Eleanor River, while the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park offers encounters with native animals. Ecopia Retreat, a luxury eco-accommodation set on a 150-acre private wildlife sanctuary, has become a notable destination for eco-tourists. Access to the island is via the SeaLink ferry from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw or regional flights to Kingscote Airport.
Seddon falls under postcode 5223 and is governed by Kangaroo Island Council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mawson electorate.
