About St Ruth
St Ruth is a rural locality straddling the Western Downs Region and Toowoomba Region in Queensland, covering approximately 219 square kilometres of productive agricultural land on the Darling Downs. With a population of around 165, it is a sparsely settled farming community about 25 kilometres from Dalby and 72 kilometres north-west of Toowoomba. The Dalby–Cecil Plains Road (State Route 82) passes through the locality from north to south, providing the main transport corridor.
Agriculture is the lifeblood of St Ruth, with cropping and grazing dominating the landscape across the broad, flat plains characteristic of this part of the Darling Downs. The locality originally bore the name St Ruth after early pastoral settlement in the district. Residents travel to Dalby for schools, shopping, and services, with Toowoomba accessible for larger needs. The area suits those drawn to a working rural lifestyle on some of Queensland's most productive farmland.
St Ruth falls under postcode 4405 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
