About Syndicate
Syndicate is an uninhabited tropical rainforest locality in the Shire of Douglas, Far North Queensland, situated approximately 15.7 kilometres north-west of Mossman, 35.5 kilometres north-west of Port Douglas and 91.5 kilometres north-north-west of Cairns. The locality covers 116.5 square kilometres of dense Wet Tropics rainforest in the upper Mossman River catchment, where the Mossman River flows through spectacular gorge country at the foot of the Great Dividing Range. The 2021 census recorded a population of zero, as most of the locality is protected within the Daintree Rainforest — part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area — and the adjacent Mossman Gorge area. The Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, which Syndicate lies within, protects some of the world's oldest tropical rainforest, estimated to be over 135 million years old.
Syndicate and its surrounding Daintree–Mossman landscape form part of one of the planet's most ecologically significant wilderness areas, where the rainforest meets the reef in the world's only place where two UNESCO World Heritage Areas — the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef — are adjacent. Mossman Gorge, situated at the eastern edge of the Syndicate locality, is among Queensland's most visited natural attractions, featuring crystal-clear swimming holes, guided Kuku Yalanji cultural experiences and ancient rainforest walks. Port Douglas (35.5 km south-east) and Mossman (15.7 km south-east) are the nearest service centres, with the Douglas Shire offering boutique resorts, restaurants and Great Barrier Reef dive operators. The area is celebrated worldwide as a premier eco-tourism and nature photography destination.

There are no inhabitants and no services in Syndicate. The locality is accessible via Mossman Gorge Road for tourism but has no urban infrastructure. Rainforest walking trails are accessible from designated entry points.
