About Tarome
Tarome is a large, sparsely populated rural locality in the Scenic Rim Region of South East Queensland, situated approximately 100 kilometres south-west of Brisbane and around 24 kilometres west of Boonah. Covering 115.7 square kilometres with a population of just 135 people, it is one of the more expansive and thinly settled localities in the region. The low density and wide open agricultural landscapes give Tarome a distinctly remote, back-country character despite its relative proximity to South East Queensland's major centres.
The locality is dominated by farming and grazing land, consistent with the broader Scenic Rim agricultural belt. The township of Boonah, around 24 kilometres to the east, provides the nearest access to shops, schools, and services. Tarome and its surroundings offer a genuine rural lifestyle away from the pressures of urban living, attracting those who value large land holdings, wide vistas, and a close connection to the land.
Tarome falls under postcode 4309 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Scenic Rim electorate.
