About Tullibigeal
Tullibigeal — affectionately known by locals as "Tulli" — is a small farming community in the Central West region of New South Wales, situated approximately 500 kilometres west of Sydney and 70 kilometres north of Condobolin. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 263 people spread across a vast 1,096 square kilometre locality, reflecting the wide open grazing country that defines this part of the state. The Aboriginal name Tullibigeal is said to mean "yarran wooden spears", a nod to the native acacia species found in the area.
The town began as a Cobb and Co stagecoach change station and retains a strong community spirit today, with Australian Rules football at the heart of local pride. Sporting facilities include the football oval, tennis and netball courts, a cricket field, a swimming pool, and a children's playground. While commercial services are minimal, Tullibigeal's tight-knit character, wide paddock views, and quiet lifestyle attract those who appreciate genuine outback community living, with larger services available in Condobolin to the south.
Tullibigeal falls under postcode 2669 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Murray electorate.
