About Uralla
Uralla is a residential suburb on the southern outskirts of Katherine, a regional town in the Northern Territory approximately 320 kilometres south of Darwin. Covering around 23 square kilometres, the suburb falls within the Katherine Town Council local government area and was officially gazetted as a suburb in April 2007, taking its name from a former agricultural lease first established in 1961. With a 2021 Census population of around 194, Uralla is a sparsely settled area characterised by small farms and rural-residential properties.
The suburb is located along Uralla Road and adjoins the broader Katherine urban area, providing residents with access to Katherine's services including schools, the Katherine Hospital, shopping centres, and the Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk National Park). Katherine is the service hub of the Top End's southern region, and Uralla's semi-rural setting offers a quieter lifestyle within easy reach of town. The area suits those working in Katherine or on local agricultural operations who prefer a rural-residential block over suburban living.
Uralla falls under postcode 852 and is governed by Katherine Town Council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Katherine electorate.
